The Snug
“I’m very pleased with it, I’d still be debating a loft conversion without your involvment!”
When I first started working with Gemma, she had a clear idea of her style and what she wanted to achieve - creating a special space for herself within her home.
As her son grew older, she felt the chaos of young children was subsiding and wanted to reclaim her home for herself. Gemma's goal was to carve out a peaceful yet multifunctional space that could accommodate everything from nights in with friends to sleepy Sundays on the sofa with her family.
Although Gemma had the space, she struggled to visualize what it could be and her ideas were running wild. We spent some time in the room that used to be the garage, and which had already been converted into a playroom. The set-up of this meant that Gemma felt this often spilled into shared areas, making the house feel more chaotic. However, after some clever planning, we realized that this space could be transformed without having to convert the loft or extend other parts of the house. It was all about maximizing the space she already had.
Once the decision was made, Gemma was proactive in implementing her design and ideas. The room had a couple of awkward features, such as the stair box in the corner, so we spent time discussing all possible options. By looking at the options in detail and then taking a step back to digest it all, Gemma felt less overwhelmed and was able to make a clear decision on how she wanted to make the most of her layout.
In the end, Gemma created the most beautiful and functional room that meets all her needs and is an absolute joy to spend time in.
